UC’s sports factories
How great and reassuring it was to read in The Bee that the University of California system has not lost sight of its educational mission.
Yep, in these days of almost complete political dysfunction in the United States — when some presidential candidates act like crazy talk-radio hosts and make outrageous statements to generate an “audience” — and in these days of unsettling social change and widening economic divide between the “haves” and “have-nots” — it’s great and reassuring to find out the highest-paid UC employee is a football coach.
The second-highest paid? A basketball coach.
After all, the main purpose of any college and university is to produce winning sports teams, isn’t it?
