The chorus of angry letter writers to The Bee expressing their displeasure at anything that represents progress or change is a daily source of entertainment well worth the price of subscription.
I imagine these curmudgeons as kind of like the original cast “Saturday Night Live” character, Roseanne Roseannadanna, played so brilliantly by the late Gilda Radner. Roseanne would passionately rant on and on about a subject, oblivious to the fact that she was completely off topic. Chevy Chase would roll his eyes, or just sit there with a pained expression on his face.
For these angry letter writers, there must be a kind of psychological euphoria that expressing these negative emotions engenders. I wonder what it costs for the extra blood-pressure medication, though. Whatever it is, it’s worth it! So keep those letters coming. The Bee needs you. I need you. The pharmaceutical industry needs you.
