Blacks mistreated by police in Fresno too
Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Jordan Davis, Trayvon Martin, Freddie Gray, Amadou Diallo, Sandra Bland — and the list goes on. Is one police protocol in place for African-Americans, and another for everyone else? As Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts Jr., writes, “African-Americans are manhandled, mistreated and misjudged by the ‘justice system’ .” The results are too often tragic.
Where is the outrage? You think it can not happen in Fresno? Just this week, my young African-American friend was stopped by police while walking down the street carrying his sports bag. Why? Because he was walking down the street carrying his sports bag.
More names will be added to the list until each one of us feels the outrage, asks what he/she can do to prevent this from happening and demands police accountability. Mr. Pitts writes, “The fight for human rights is not a black thing. Human rights are a human thing.”
