It’s never too late to create a loving environment
I read the letter from Richard Owen in the July 9 Bee and felt sad for him. Sad because he has separated himself from the world around him, sad because he cannot see a future for his grandchildren, and sad because his definition of “normal” is so narrow that only he fits his criteria.
We go through many changes through life as our intellect grows with our education and experiences. We grow with it if we allow ourselves to.
Mr. Owen seems to have closed his mind to the ideals of equality, fairness and compassion. But if life has taught me anything, it is that we can change.
It is never too late to realize our full potential and embrace our humanity even in our twilight years. It is never too late to understand new views, rejoice in the happiness of others and work to create a loving environment for those we will leave behind.
I hope Mr. Owen can find his rainbow; everyone deserves a rainbow.
