Renaming key Fresno streets for Cesar Chavez is work of council’s ‘bully majority’
Major impact to streets’ renaming
The Fresno City Council’s bully majority steamrolling of the renaming of California, Ventura and Kings Canyon streets (with The Bee’s Editorial Board’s support) attempts to minimize opposition by blithely glossing over real costs to real people. Changing stationary, checks and business licenses are the least of the financial hits businesses will incur. City grants won’t even begin to cover those costs.
Proponents also ignore negative impacts residents of these three streets, which are located in long-struggling areas of our city, will face. One commenter on my Nextdoor survey, Jay Vang, stated: “Imagine going to dmv and other places to change stuffs on your personal information when you shouldn’t have to. It’s going to be a lot of headaches.“
The Council Majority and The Bee also laughingly believe that the same process the city used in renaming tiny stretches of other streets, schools and parks is just fine for renaming 10-plus miles of a major east-to-west corridor stretching across the entire city — impacting thousands of businesses and residents.

Glee over street renaming
You cannot imagine my glee when I read an article on the renaming of Kings Canyon Road and California Ave.
Criticism and concerns ranged from inconvenience to businesses, ie, costs, to the “historic nature” of the streets.
Psychology 1A, to those whose comments ranged from changing a street’s name .. would be like forgetting who we are, to . .take away our history is to take away Fresno.
All due respect, reality check; you are not the name of a street. Learn Cesar Chavez’s history and contributions our country, especially to the Central Valley.
Yes, the process could have been handled differently. The article states two dozen people spoke; the article did not indicate if they all spoke on the name change for these streets. Only three spoke in favor of the name change.

This is another bit of wokeism
Assembly Bill 1466: What is it? What is the point?
This bill, signed into law by the governor, requires county recorders throughout California to develop a plan to identify and erase any reference to racial and ethnic discrimination in property records (deeds, property transactions, etc.) also known as racial covenants.
Is changing our school and town names, and removing and desecrating historical statues destructive to our culture? In the same context, is erasing local historical records a productive act? I believe wokeism is divisive. Historical revisionism should be eliminated at all levels of our culture.
The people’s tax money is being wasted by anti-American, radical, Marxist politicians who have an agenda that is not acceptable to the vast majority of Americans or compliant with our Constitution.
Covenants of this nature have been illegal for years. AB 1466 is contributing to the suicide of the greatest nation in human history. Instead of revising the record, why don’t we learn from it, rather than risking repetition through ignorance?

Fresno High must be safe school
On March 20 around 12:22 p.m. an explosive device was detonated and thrown in the Fresno High Art Department’s stairway. A teacher was injured and the safety of students was threatened.
This stairway has a reputation for miscellaneous acts occurring, such as students smoking marijuana, smoking cigarettes, vaping, and students performing sexual favors to each other with no discipline from administration.
Years of having knowledge of a dangerous location on campus, the music students have experienced a terrorist attack at the ages of 13-18. Our admin attempted to describe the bomb as a “loud noise maker” and has taken little to no action to assure the safety of art students. There was no lockdown, police were not called, and the situation entirely was recognized as a rumor by the principal instead of an attack on the school.
Students and staff who were in the room described the situation as a large firecracker or a bomb, both of which are classified as explosive devices and should result in mandatory expulsion. Fresno High claims to be investigating; clearly doing nearly nothing about this situation goes against our rights as students and staff to learn and work in a safe environment.

Trying to defend Trump is amusing
I’ve been having so much fun lately watching the news and seeing Republicans trying to defend their boss, Donald Trump.
They jump and run like fumigated cockroaches. I have to admitI feel some pleasure about it.

‘No pets’ sign means exactly that
It was a perfect weekend to enjoy the weather and the Clovis event. Lots of vintage and collectable stuff. Great crowds.
It was sad, though, to see how many dogs could not read the “No Pets Allowed” sign, though. I’m not sure why people feel entitled to disregard this simple safety law.

Our great nation is being destroyed
With the election of President Biden and others like Gavin Newsom, coupled with Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, in cooperation with McClatchy newspapers such as The Fresno Bee, the destruction of this great country is in full swing.
Having the necessary protection of the Second Amendment and being willing to use whatever is necessary to protect what is left our way of life is important.
The question that is most often asked is, “What happened?” It is an easy answer: the unions, specifically the teachers union; the liberal, hateful Democrats; Black Lives movement; and the LGBT community are responsible.
Losers all, they will someday regret what they have been indoctrinated to believe about this country that offers to those that desire, motivation, initiative, most of whom would be dead in many other countries.

Choose plant-based meat, dairy
On Monday, March 20, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued its latest assessment on climate change, drawing on the findings of hundreds of scientists throughout the world. The assessment details the devastating impacts of rising greenhouse gas emissions, including destruction of homes, loss of crops, and fragmentation of communities.
Animal agriculture is responsible for at least 15% of man-made greenhouse gas emissions, including nitrous oxide from animal waste piles, methane from ruminant digestion, and carbon dioxide from burning forests to create animal pastures.
In an environmentally sustainable world, meat and dairy products in our diet must be replaced by vegetables, fruits and grains, just as fossil fuels are replaced by wind, solar, and other emission-free energy sources.
Our favorite supermarket offers a rich variety of plant-based meat and dairy products. It enables each of us to reduce our carbon footprint, even as we improve our health and reduce animal cruelty.
