Unions aid teachers

This letter is in response to the teachers who do not want to pay union dues. Teachers have to join the union, but they have the option to have their dues go to their favorite charity.

If my union had not worked and united our members over the issue of capping our benefits, we would be paying a huge amount of money each month for benefits. Teachers who complain about dues are usually the ones who cry for help when their administrator or the district decides to make their work environment unbearable.

I suffered from two principals and a former superintendent who decided to save money by making my work environment difficult for a senior teacher. My union stepped in, helped me and I became a site representative at my school.

The unions help teachers and are important. Teachers need to think twice about this issue because the teacher shortage will be worse if there is no help or job security.
