Environmentalism is two-headed monster, politically ‘no touchy’
Our region seems to be caught up a peculiar kind of water war that has everyone pitted against everyone else with no real solutions in sight. As the participants fight it out on the battlefield, a two-headed monster sits on the sidelines enjoying the show.
That two-headed monster is “Environmentalism” that uses about 60% of our state’s water and which is answerable to no one. Not only does it get to use most of the water without any kind of accountability, but it also gets to nix any plans for building more dams.
That is why it is a two-headed monster. It represents more than half of the problem, sending most of our water down to the sea, and it also makes sure that we cannot build new dams so that we can collect water in the wet years. Environmentalism has become a kind of sacred cow that politicians seem to think is a “no touchy.”
We simply can’t solve our water problems until we realistically review and revise our environmental policies. The two-headed monster must be held to the same accountability as everyone else. You can’t find a solution if you ignore over half the problem.
