Fresno Bee readers share thoughts on Trump and ‘stolen’ election, U.S. gun culture

How did Trump let steal happen?

I’m perplexed.

While president of the United States of America and in charge of the world’s largest security apparatus, Donald Trump allowed dark forces (Democrats, foreigners, etc) to sneak up behind him and steal the presidential election.

And Republicans want him back.

Not understanding the U.S. gun culture

“Children nearly decapitated, only identifiable by their clothing and shoes”... I ask you Republican lawmakers, “have you no sense of decency, at long last, no sense of decency”... or conscience, or soul !!

My husband and I just returned from a prolonged trip to Denmark to visit friends and relatives. Denmark, where guns are few and civilian assault rifles are non-existent. Our friends there ask us with incredulous faces, “What is going on over there? We just don’t understand. How is this allowed to go on ?”

Our answer: We don’t understand either.

Drinking from the public trough

Dear Gov. Newsom: Where is the gas tax break you were promising before your re-election? Where is your deep concern for those of us who still drive to work to make a living?

Why are you still releasing water into San Francisco Bay when so many communities are struggling? Just where is all of this compassion you claim, yet you do nothing?

Just another hollow, self-serving politician drinking from the public trough?

GOP senators, it’s time to go

I was pleased to see The Bee’s editorial cartoon (June 12) calling out Republicans for the gun crisis in this country. I have noticed that too many times our corporate media does not place any blame, instead saying things like there is a lack of political will to make changes.

Eighty percent of U.S. citizens say that Congress is not getting things done, and it should be continuously pointed out in our media that things are not getting done because Republicans block legislation.

Despite dozens of gun reform laws passed by the House of Representatives, Senate Republicans use the filibuster to continually block votes on these bills, resulting in more and more innocent people dying.

It makes sense to ban weapons of war that kill many people quickly, to raise the age of purchase to 21, to do background checks on purchasers, to have a waiting period so people cannot buy a gun and then commit murder, etc.

We need to remove these Republican senators who vote for their pocketbooks, as 100% of NRA donations go to Republicans. It is obviously more important for Republican senators to raise money instead of voting to save the lives of our innocent citizens.

Feels like double taxation

I’m confused. Why are residents in the Fresno Unified School District and city of Fresno paying for police protection on our schools. A million-dollar contract with the police department, taxpayer funded and FUSD, tax payer funded again, for police on five middle school campuses.

Our taxes that fund the police to protect the citizens are not enough, so the schools have to pay for protection out of taxpayers money. What is job of police if it’s not protecting our children?

Any one else see something wrong here?

Liquid gold and shortages

So, I just got some $6.29 liquid gold, formally known as gasoline. Then went to Target to find a poor available product selection and long checkout lines due to short staffing.

Meanwhile, Joe and his pals are too busy holding hearings and sending billions to Ukraine to be bothered with things like that. I would meet and talk with my "vaccinated" buddies about it, but they all have COVID. Is it 2024 yet?
