Union do’s, don’ts

Regarding the July 1 article about California teachers demonstrating in Sacramento in sympathy with union members in Wisconsin challenging having to pay “fair share dues” because they disagree with union actions/policies: I have a couple of questions.

If you don’t pay any dues to your representative union, are you still going to accept any raises and benefits that the union bargains for you (because others have paid dues)? Or are you just going to accept whatever the employer decides to give you, if anything, separate from the union negotiating?

Bottom line: If you’re going to accept the money/benefits, then pay the “fair share.”
