DeChambeau & Super Bowl of golf

Thank you, Bryson DeChambeau. What a gut-wrenching performance at the U.S. Open. We live in a upside-down world today. However, Bryson made it look so right-side up in winning the Super Bowl of golf.

To say he is a champion is an understatement. A local kid that conquered the golf world for four days! I am so proud to know his father Jon. What a great job he and his wife did in raising Bryson. This why we need sports in our lives. It helps us forget all the negativity around us.

In my opinion, Bryson, next to Tom Seaver, is the greatest athlete to come out of the Fresno area. Congratulations Bryson on job well done!

Cops, city were wrong on teen case

I just watched the video and read about the assault on a 17-year-old boy in the Fresno Police Department months ago. The police officer threw the first punch, and he and his fellows threw all the ensuring punches. I find it incredible that an armed grown man would attack an unarmed kid in this way. He should be fired, and his buddies disciplined without question.

I am equally alarmed that the reviewing office withheld the report which clearly shows misconduct because he thought it would offend the department. He should be out of that job, immediately. He might be independent and free to make calls, but when the reason for his call is to protect the department then his judgment is immediately seriously questionable. His has the wrong set of values for that job.

Dining dangers exist, yet not cited

In the editorial, “DA was right not to charge Fresno restaurants over COVID-19 health order violations,” The Fresno Bee Editorial Board states that a Fresno DA did not have enough evidence to charge and fine restaurants that were violating the Health Code. It is unfortunate that the DA was not able to fine these restaurants as she needed to for the safety of her community.

If people continue doing what they are doing and not taking safety precautions, then this virus can end up being even more deadly than it already is. Yes, it is the people’s choice and restaurants choice to offer dining services outdoors, but people have to take into consideration that any small moves without taking proper precautions can and will be deadly to someone’s family or family member.

Although Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp did not have enough evidence, those restaurants still have to face penalties for not taking proper measures to protect their staff and customers. In times like these, you would think that people would be considerate when dozens of civilians are losing their loved ones just because some people do not want to wear a mask or take caution.

‘Reopen or else crowd’ just selfish

Since when did public health mandates become a political choice? The “Reopen or Else” crowd at City Hall are the very reason we’re still on a county watchlist. The “Let’s Go Party” advocates from May gave us our summer spike and cost a couple hundred people in Fresno County their lives.

Now they’re back and demanding all businesses, schools, and sports open up. Local restaurant owner Dave Fansler screams about government tyranny while pocketing $1-2 million in federal loans. He’s not hurting. Councilman Gary Bredefeld, kind of a doctor, encourages the crowd to break the White House CDC guidelines. What happened to “do no harm”?

Perhaps their argument, that they can reopen safely, would be more believable if their gatherings exhibited any safeguards. Attendees did not wear masks and were not socially distanced at all.

Don’t follow these fools. Listen to real doctors and epidemiologists.
