Nunes guilty of gross misconduct

So now we know that Devin Nunes was not only trying to cover up for Trump in the House impeachment hearings, he was trying to cover up for himself.

Nunes was clearly involved in helping Trump try to dig up dirt on the Bidens in the Ukraine. Here was one of the crooks who did the dirty work, sitting in judgment in the House hearing as to whether anything impeachable occurred. Even Nunes must have felt shame, guilt, and a justifiable foreboding.

Nunes claimed he didn’t know Lev Parnas, whom he worked through in helping the dirt-digging campaign, and never talked to him. However, when phone records showed otherwise, that suddenly refreshed his memory. Nunes has shown for some time to be dishonest and unethical, but his role in the sordid dirt-digging campaign and cover-up takes his infamy to new heights.

Nunes may get expelled from the House for gross unethical misconduct, clearly being one of the most dishonest, corrupt representatives in congressional history. However, if he isn’t expelled, voters must expel him from the House in the 2020 election. His every day in office is a sickening stain on the Valley and the country and a growing threat to our democracy.

Trump continues to break his oath

I was pleased to see the piece from the Los Angeles Times’ Editorial Board re: Trump's continuing to violate his presidential oath by breaking the emolument clause and steering business to his hotels. However, it didn't go far enough.

The Times said that he couldn't be stopped, and I find that hard to believe. He should have been inpeached on Inauguration Day when he booked a party in one of his establishments. Almost daily since he has continued violations of his oath in one way or another, as we were warned by 27 mental health professionsls of some repute prior to the election. His lawless behavior has brought to light the broken condition of our federal government, which has allowed Democrats' political considerations to supersede their oaths and ignore Trump's continued constitutional misbehavior.

Impeachable offenses should be tallied and held in abeyance if those who should confront them do not. When one lawbreaking episode is finally brought to the impeachment arena and fails to convict him, another should be utilized and impeachment begin again. He keeps breaking his oath because he sees that he can wthout consequence. He, as sure as the sun rises, will continue until we.remove him.

Impeachment was a waste of time

For me the saddest part of the impeachment mess was the time that was wasted. I think of Trump et al spending all of their time trying to cheat in an election rather than spending this same amount of time and thought working to improve our country, help improve the lives of its people and, really, this finite planet that we all inhabit.

I wish they had chosen to solve problems facing our country such as income inequality, environmental issues, gun laws, homelessness, poverty, education, immigration, opioid addiction, etc. Just think what they might have accomplished...

Sadly, that time has been wasted and we will never get it back.

On guns, God and Fresno City Hall

Please, Mr. Bredefeld (Opinion piece in The Bee Jan. 10). Nowhere in the Bible is “the right to bear arms” written. Nor were our founding fathers in writing the Constitution and its amendments claiming to be bringing the word of God to Earth. There is no mention of God-given rights in the Constitution or its amendments. This is a very human document.Imagine a god interested in a bicameral legislature and it becomes obvious.

Anyone’s notion of a god is diminished by assuming that god would be offended by a desire to keep guns out of City Hall. Our declaration declares that humans are “endowed by their creator” with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but there is no mention of gun ownership, let alone concealed gun possession. Also — please remember the wording of the 2nd Amendment. It is about a “well regulated militia being necessary for the security of a free state. . . ” What is it about the words “well regulated” that you choose to ignore, Mr. Bredefeld?
