Pelosi as president? Letters to the editor, Jan. 31, 2020
Nancy Pelosi taking over as president?
The speaker of the House is third in line for the president of the United States. If President Trump was removed form office and Vice President Pence was not able to take his place, Nancy Pelosi would be president.
Since the impeachment has been so one political party, this could happen. If both the House and Senate were one political party, this could easily happen in the future. Impeachment of the president in any situation should be by the whole Congress agreeing on the guilty verdict on a real crime.

Beethoven would be proud of Fresno
Since you gave up a nice amount of room on your editorial page publishing an opinion piece by Andrea Moore about Beethoven’s 250th anniversary year and how best to honor it (Jan. 6), I must respond by saying I think you squandered valuable space, based on her skewed view of celebration.
To suggest that the best way to honor Ludwig van Beethoven, who composed 722 pieces, is to play none of them all year is a “new think” mentality that could only come out of today’s “higher” education, in this case Smith College in Massachusetts. Her zeal to want new compositions should not diminish Beethoven’s greatness. This thinking is equivalent to having a memorial service for a famous person, and spending the whole time talking about the children of the deceased.
Since this editorial came via the Chicago Tribune, it was probably featured there for its shock value. I’m sure it will not be acknowledged by the Chicago Symphony, who is performing all nine Beethoven symphonies and other numerous pieces by the composer this season.
Kudos to conductor Rei Hotoda and our wonderful Fresno Philharmonic, whose recent concert featured an all-Beethoven offering.

Nunes is acting like a traitor to the U.S.
In Article III, Section 3 of the United States Constitution, treason is specifically limited to levying war against the U.S., or adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.
I have read the articles of impeachment of Donald Trump, forward, backwards, and sideways and I have come to the conclusion that Trump and his supporters Mitch McConnell, Devin Nunes and others in Congress are committing treason. Trump has given and continues to give aid and comfort to Putin, an enemy the United States of America.
I am sad and angry when I say that my representative in Congress , Devin Nunes, is a traitor.
Tell us Devin, why are you commiting treason? Give us a reason, Just one, please.

Gender ID and women fighters
The world is changing, gender identity is changing. But transgender women should not be allowed to enter into combat sports where there is physical contact between the two athletes. I am writing this as a feminist woman who supports all people and their decisions and has knowledge on gender inequality/oppression.
However, in the case of MMA fighters Fallon Fox and Tamika Brents, who fought in 2014, Tamika suffered a concussion and an injury to her skull. Fox is a trans women who then pursued a career in MMA. In an interview published by Richard Presley on ATBK, Brents said that she has never felt so dominated in her life. She adds that she hadnever felt strength like that before. This is a woman who has fought a plethora of women before but was dominated by incomparable strength. This is how male domination is reinforced.
A study in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that, on average, women possess 40 percent less upper-body strength and 33 percent less lower-body strength. Fallon Fox changed her gender identity, but we still cannot ignore that she still has an advantage when it comes to her female opponents.
