Trump and new year wish list: Letters to the editor, Jan. 10, 2020

Surrounded by Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as well as the Joint Chiefs of Staff, President Donald Trump walks to the podium to deliver a statement in the Grand Foyer of the White House, in response to Iran firing more than a dozen ballistic missiles at two Iraqi military bases housing U.S. troops, on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020 in Washington, D.C.

Making a wish list for the new year

My wish for the New Year:

A president who doesn't think he's the chosen one.

A president that Republicans compare to Jesus.

A president who's not corrupt, racist, a bully and above the law.

A president who doesn't turn the White House upside down, has drama, and doesn't tweet!

Conservatives and impeachment

The best arguments I have read in favor of impeaching Donald Trump have come from conservative Republicans: William Kristol, Max Boot, Charles Sykes, George Will, Jonathan V. Last and others. They present their case with logic and sound reasoning supported by valid evidence.

As for me, I have always thought that Donald Trump was unfit for office because he publicly calls people derogatory names. I disapprove of name-calling in anyone, but especially in an elected official.

Evangelicals’ support of Trump

Consistent with his “killer/king” upbringing, President Trump has decided to cut food aid to 700,000 working poor, who, working less than 20 hours a week qualify for three months of food stamps every three years. Yes, they could get on average one month of food stamps a year. Beloved by Christian Evangelicals, President Trump thinks that is too much. Hey, America’s farmers do not need farm labor after all, do they? Haven’t the robots harvested all of our food?

What kind of human thinks women should be second-class citizens, and that gays and lesbians are going to hell? These antiquated beliefs sort of self-describe hateful people as a disappearing minority. So, in typical irresponsible fashion, lacking critical thinking skills, they want to beat up others below them to make themselves feel better. Beat up the hungry working poor and their children. Turn away when “President Daddy” locks up immigrant children and babies in cages. Beat up endangered species for developers and fossil fuel corporations.

What sense is there in evangelical “end times” thinking that hell on earth-global warming benefits your grandchildren? What mental health gives you a rush of power to plan to kill life on earth?

Farmers, Trump and fracking water

Regarding an article on Dec. 13, “Trump administration opens state land to fracking and drilling.”

To all the farmers who support Trump: What are you going to do when all the water is contaminated from fracking and you don't have any more for your crops?
