Trump and quid pro: Letters to the editor, Dec. 15, 2019
There’s quid and then qui pro quibus
I am tired of the expression "quid pro quo." The proper expression should be "qui pro quibus" which makes it plural. Trump has done many dishonest things in return for many favors.

Two cities need to become one
I’m writing in response to your Oct. 31 article, “Fresno’s ‘tale of two cities’: Which neighborhoods receive the most government aid?”
I’m very concerned with the amount of people south of Shaw Avenue, who make up more than 83 percent of the low-income families. The majority are receiving some form of public assistance. I believe that this can be attributed to not having enough resources to get a good paying job. Most of the big corporations are locating at the “nice part” of Fresno, the northern side. The city should make Walmart or other big corporations locate in the south side of Fresno. This will allow more jobs to open up for people living in that area.
The people living in the south side would stop receiving federal aid if they were able to make a decent amount of money to provide for their families. With big corporations moving into Fresno, the economic gap between the south side and northern side of Fresno is only becoming wider. The poverty in south side can come to an end if the city can become one great city instead of divided sides.

Veterans, war and young Americans
58,479 (circa 2005) courageous young American men and women of my generation perished as a result of the Vietnam War. Most of them screaming and crying out for their mothers and loved ones as their life’s blood oozed into the topsoil of the highlands and lowlands of a country not their own.
Ultimately politicians and military high command are the only victors of war. Because after war, there remains only a life of veiled isolation and pain for the rank-and-file soldiers who survive it.
All young Americans should clearly understand that glory in war is always nothing more than an enticing oxymoronic talking point.
War, although sometimes necessary, is and always will be the perfect one word definition for man’s inhumanity to mankind, a legacy we will never shed.
God, please bless America.

Asks why Bee ignores LGBTQ
As a local gay reader I am unnerved by the general lack of local LGBTQ+ coverage. The Fresno Bee fails to do a full interview or full report on any events, nonprofits providing care, or recognition to Fresno’s LGBTQ+ community. The Bee continually reports about homelessness and mental health, yet always fails to mention the LGBTQ+ community, which baffles me. LGBTQ adults are more than twice as likely as heterosexual adults to experience a mental health condition. Forty percent of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ+ because of parents’ personal views. LGBTQ+ exists in Fresno; LGBTQ+ aren’t getting the proper mental health care in Fresno. Young people are homeless in Fresno because they identify in the LGBTQ+ spectrum.
It’s important that we mention and acknowledge the LGBTQ+ community; according the Telegraph, 20% of millennials and 24% of generation Z identify in the LGBTQ+ spectrum. With only 66% of people being straight, why isn’t The Bee appealing to LGBTQ+ readers? Why aren’t resources published and discussed that are readily available for people struggling? Fresno Spectrum, an LGBTQ+ safe space, or my LGBT Plus group, which is hosted in downtown Fresno’s Common Space, both provide resources and community.

Making Yosemite a theme park? Dumb
Kudos to Marek Warszawski for his article on commercializing national parks. It is an idea beyond stupid and wicked. National parks are to preserve nature, not become theme parks. As the world becomes more crowded, the need for places to get away and be quiet has increased. If one needs to be tethered to electronics, stay home! Or better, try out silence. You might find you enjoy it.
