Nunes a ‘Trump houseboy’: Letters to the editor, Dec. 4, 2019

He recalls the good old Congress

I am so old, I remember when our members of Congress representing the San Joaquin Valley acted in their elected positions as our representatives. I remember Rep. Bob Mathias, a Tulare Republican, acting honorably. I recall Rep. John Krebs, a Fresno Democrat, doing the same. I remember Rep. Charles “Chip” Pashayan, another Republican, adhering to this identical, consistent standard.

Now I suffer Trump Houseboy Devin Nunes, Republican. My tax dollars — and yours — help finance Nunes’ witless attempt to defend his tender ego. He takes umbrage at satirical opponents who mock him on the Twitter accounts “Devin. Nunes’ Cow” and “Devin Nunes’ Mom.”

I’m so old, I don’t do Twitter. I’m so old, I remember when our members of Congress devoted their energies and votes to our Valley’s concerns about water, cleaner air, national defense and the like.

I realize that change is inevitable, but must it be as vacuous and petty as Congressman Devin Nunes?

Columnist’s criticism ill placed

I’m surprised Mr. Watszawski doesn’t have two broken arms by now patting himself on the back for the articles he writes about. It’s people like him who cause riots and protesters. When he puts down our policemen and women who put their life on the line to uphold criminals and murderers, he should be jailed for inciting violence.

I wonder if he ever needed police protection, who he would call?

I see he has moved up in the world. The Bee is giving him half pages now for his mindless articles. Yeah Marek , you need a ride along.

Who is really the foreigner?

Regarding Donald’s Trump pending impeachment, I know that Mexican-Americans are full-fledged Americans and Mexico is a foreign country. My color is dark, medium or light, but my mind is accustomed to McDonalds, Taco Bell and Chipotle. Why am I a designated alien when I have been reared with fellow Americans saluting the flag? Who is Donald Trump to call me a foreigner because I speak Spanish and English? I thought that was a skill to welcome foreigners.

May Mr. Trump acknowledge his own culture as an asset to foreign nationals instead of a walled border against Mexican criminals. What will he answer for other than his inherited assets? Can he talk to us about his problems that do not relate to money or retirement plans? What is Trump’s language if blatant reporters offend him? Does he answer questions or just redirect them? Is he the president or an accountant?

Answer the questions Mr. President. I would like to know why you are a negative instead of a positive accountant. Good-bye and good riddance.

Marathon a giant traffic nightmare

Concerning the Fresno/Clovis marahon of Nov. 3, some consideration needed to be given to the citizens living in and around the neighborhoods of the marathon.

During this year’s marathon, the areas between Shepherd Avenue, Friant Road and Willow Avenue are basically land-locked for vehicular traffic. Our church is four miles from our home and, it took us one hour to get home from church.

As nice as it is for the Fresno/Clovis area to get some recognition within the marathon community, this complete vehicular gridlock cannot happen again. I call upon the Fresno and Clovis councils to address this issue before next year’s marathon and to not allow this traffic-flow fiasco to happen again.

Jon Schwabenland, Clovis
