Two ‘vicious dogs’

Charles Krauthhammer’s May 22 column bemoans the USA’s withdrawal from Iraq as giving up our dominant influence over a sovereign, stable and self-reliant Iraq. At what point since our entry into Iraq has it been stable and self-reliant? Our troops were viewed and will always be viewed as an occupational force; as invading Christian Crusaders and the whipping dog for both sides of the conflict.

Let’s not waste any more U.S. lives and treasure trying to keep two vicious dogs apart. Let the despotic and brutal Sunni jihadists and Shiite jihadists beat each other up. When they are exhausted, the rest of the world can figure out what to do next. Note that China and Russia seem perfectly willing to let it play out that way.
