The old GOP
I have been watching Ken Burns’ wonderful series on the Roosevelts on PBS. Hearing the words of these highest ranking presidents has led me to the conclusion that if he were with us today, Teddy Roosevelt would not be a Republican. His stated beliefs are in direct conflict to what the Republican party stands for now. The same for Lincoln. As for Franklin D. Roosevelt, whom historians rank as our greatest president, the GOP is trying to undo the programs FDR started which have helped the country so much. You cannot go to a national park without being thankful for the contributions of both Roosevelts. They were environmentalists.
I am of the World War II generation. Dwight D. Eisenhower was a great general, later a great president, and hated war, as do most military leaders. President Eisenhower would definitely not be a Republican today. So perhaps the right wing should stop watching Fox News and have an open mind on where their party came from and where it is going.
