Questioning coverage by The Bee

On June 29, thousands of people marched in over 600 demonstrations to protest current immigration policies that separate children from their parents as these families seek asylum in the United States. The next day The Bee did not cover any of these events, including the well-attended demonstration in Fresno. Instead, the headline “news” item on the Bee’s website was the swimsuit competition of the Miss California pageant.

Why did the editorial board choose to ignore the countrywide protests? Why cover the Miss California pageant at all? The public needs local newspapers to report on issues important to community members. The Bee blew it.

Supreme Court a swamp?

Once upon a time , it was common for people to say, “I’ll take this case to the highest court in the land – the U.S. Supreme Court.” But that was in the past, when decisions by the court were considered “immaculate.”

Now, decisions by the court are decided by who picked the certain justices and who is in the majority. The U.S. Constitution has been set aside and decisions are based on pleasing the sitting president.

The people who are supposed to be the beneficiaries of these decisions are left out in the cold. Kind of like standing outside a restaurant, cold and hungry, while watching all the “deciders” eating inside.

Keep in mind that the current Supreme Court has become a “swamp.”

It is time to wake up

In response to Charles N. Hall’s letter (June 21), the writer feels Trump will Make America Great Again. Yes, Trump can Make America Great Again – by resigning!

America has always been great. Trump forgets that the majority of Americans wanted Hillary to win. The majority wanted President Obama’s policies to continue. When Trump states “I’m doing this for the people,” he is only talking about his base, a small amount. He’s doing nothing for me. In fact, he wants to take away my health care.

Anyone who makes fun of a disabled person, denigrates women and is a racist, is not fit and does not deserve to be in the highest office in this country! Anyone who voted for him should be ashamed of themselves!

I, for one, do not want us to return to the 1950s, like Trump wants us to. He is not for progress, just progress for himself. Wake up Trump supporters before it’s too late!

Tax-phobia harms Fresno in long run

It’s sad the mayor pulled the parks and public safety initiative without public debate or a decision from the voters. The misguided tax-phobia of the city council majority is an example of the narrow-minded outlook that keeps Fresno on the bottom of so many “best of” lists and at the top of so many “worst of” lists. We don’t have many parks for a city our size, but we have low taxes! We care about our police department, but not enough to pay for officers. Did we mention low taxes? Sooner or later, we get what we pay for. Or don’t pay for.
