PBS should apologize
The PBS production of “Globe Trekker” May 10 on Vietnam was a total disrespect to our 50,000 dead and thousands who came back injured.
The host, Zay Harding, toured Vietnam while wearing a single star T-shirt symbolic of those who fought against our servicemen and women. Mr. Harding put on another T-shirt that had the face of Ho Chi Min and referred to him as Uncle Ho.
And at the end, Mr. Harding, with such a wide smile and eyes wide open, asked a North Vietnamese general about the order he gave to charge into Saigon to end the war. The general said they had driven out the invaders and won the war. The episode can be viewed online.
A neighbor of mine was killed in Vietnam. Our park in Mendota was named for those killed there. My brother, John, served in Vietnam and one night he spoke in his sleep, “Are they at the wire?”
I will not be watching the Globe Trekker again and PBS should apologize to all the veterans and to the Vietnamese people who were able to flee and now live in this area.
