Let’s celebrate our diverse backgrounds
Being mixed race isn’t always so easy. For some people, being mixed race means feeling confused, lost, not knowing where you belong.
This is especially true for teens, who are just starting to find their way in the world to see where exactly they fit in. But when you have so many different cultures and customs, fitting into just one category just doesn’t feel right. You can feel trapped being defined by just one aspect of yourself when you know you’re so much more.
For some mixed-race people, this may not be true. Maybe they were raised and taught about one of their cultures more than the other and are more comfortable just fitting into that one category.
Maybe for some it’s just not that big of a deal.
But for those of us who feel lost and out of place, we need a way to know we aren’t alone, that there are plenty of other people out there trying to find their way in their own cultures.
We need to learn to support one another and celebrate our diverse backgrounds, not ignore them.
