When conservatives try to justify selfishness
Regarding several recent letters about the Republican tax bill, I am reminded of two statements by economist John Kenneth Galbraith.
“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.” (2002)
“Do not be alarmed by simplification, complexity is often a device for claiming sophistication, or for evading simple truthss” (1997)
