Music’s messing with my mood
When I started working in retail stores back in 1947 (I was 14) stores didn’t have any kind of music piped in for customers to enjoy while they were shopping. But in the ’50s it was believed that if some relaxing music was in stores, customers would like it and they might be more at ease, would shop longer and ultimately spend more money. Eventually it spread to all businesses. It was a great idea.
Now when I shop at most stores and visit doctors offices, the music offered is anything but relaxing. It makes me want to buy what is on my list and get out of there. Now I realize I’m an old codger, old school, but I have talked to others who feel the same way.
Recently I was in a doctor’s waiting room and this dude was singing “I love your body” over and over and over again. It was so relaxing. Yeah, right!
