Trump lies with impunity

President Donald Trump’s spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said that she was not sure how Trump found the videos, which he retweeted from the leader of an extreme far-right British group. Asked if the president had a responsibility to verify the content, Sanders said: “Whether it’s a real video, the threat is real and that is what the president is talking about.”

Recently, after another trademark Donald Trump Twitter fit (this time sharing unverified wildly Islamophobic videos from a far-right British source), Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters that it did not matter if the videos were faked or not. Many people have commented that this latest attack on the truth from Trump and his administration may prove to be a turning point of his presidency.

I highly doubt it. Trump seems to be immune to consequences for lies so far, be it making up numbers about the murder rate, claiming millions voted illegally in the election, maintaining he always opposed intervention in Iraq, declaring President Obama wiretapped Trump Tower, or the truly countless other examples of “alternative facts” Trump has brought to the national discussion.

Why would he suddenly be held accountable?
