‘Incompetent’ GOP wants to pass ‘something, anything’
If the Republicans get away with their income tax scam, they should be voted out of office for ineptitude and accepting bribes. There is no other way to explain why fiscal conservatives would balloon the national debt, steal from the poor, ignore most of the middle class, and all to fund a giveaway to billionaires and big business.
There are economic certainties like low unemployment and low borrowing rates that will push big companies to increase dividends and buy back stock. Higher investment and increased employment are not in the cards for big businesses. Our main economic engine is entrepreneurship and small business. No legislator knows the details of tax proposals related to these things because they are in flux.
An objective estimate of economic effects cannot be conjured from a cauldron of uncertainty. But the Republicans seem determined to ignore sensible policy-making, public disclosure and comment, and substantive hearings, in order to pass “something, anything.”
Anything other than show they are incompetent to handle the public’s business in a fair and evenhanded way. We’ve known for almost a year that the emperor has no clothes. Soon we may see that his loyal courtiers are naked as well.
