Use $5 million for river parkway upkeep, not new road
The Fresno City and County politicians’ involvement in the River West environmental impact report is counter to all logical planning.
The city has claimed it has no money to support operation and maintenance for the San Joaquin River Parkway but now supports spending $5 million of taxpayer money to build a new road down the bluff at Spano Park because a few homeowners along Riverview Drive, a public road, are upset about area traffic.
This is more money than the Packard Foundation’s several million dollar contribution to the parkway to help purchase the River West property for the people of our community. If the city has $5 million to give away, how about putting it in an endowment fund for River West operation and maintenance so the property can be opened to the public and enjoyed by its rightful owners?
Our public officials should represent the majority constituency; not the minority special interests wielding power.
