Stand up to Fresno City Hall for access to your parkway

To everyone living in Fresno: Drive north on Palm Avenue. Cross Nees Avenue and continue on the driveway to the left of the big glass building. Turn left into the parking lot next to the small city park.

Park and walk across the park to the railing. You are overlooking the San Joaquin River and an area of the river bottom known as River West Fresno.

Most of what you can see is land that was acquired in 2003 for use as public parkland, walking and biking trail, and river access.

Fantastic, you will say, gazing at a vast stretch of river bottom. I want to go down there, you will think. But how do you do that? Not easily right now. And not at all in your car, after 14 years. The City of Fresno has not allowed it to happen.

Attend the River Conservancy meeting at Fresno City Hall Council Chambers, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Get involved. See you there.
