When will Nunes, McClintock stand up to gun lobby?

It is time for members of Congress, starting with our own Reps. Tom McClintock (District 4) and Devin Nunes (District 22), to end the insanity that is taking place in this country.

Stop the mass shootings that are so prevalent because of our ridiculous gun laws. The inane phrase “guns don’t kill people – people kill people” is completely beside the point. Common sense tells you that if guns are as available as penny candy, then, of course, there will be more shootings.

We should, at the very least, follow Australia’s example. In 1996 after a mass shooting that killed 35 people, Australia banned certain semi-automatic, self-loading rifles and shotguns, and imposed stricter licensing and registration requirements. It also instituted a mandatory buyback program for firearms banned by the 1996 law. Since 1996 there have been no mass shootings in Australia.

Members of Congress are the only individuals who have the power to stop this carnage. McClintock and Nunes should stop voting with the NRA and support the legislation filed by Sen. Dianne Feinstein instead.
