Republicans give us less of everything good about our country
As Republicans concoct and lie about their sweeping tax rewrite, I am reminded of something I heard my father say on enough occasions that I remember it to this day.
“If I’d had had any money I’d have made a great Republican.”
He was a pretty decent guy, not at all greedy or envious, so I’m not sure he would’ve ever made a good Republican.
He was born in 1914, survived the Great Depression as a young person in southeast Missouri, and later the west side of Kern County. It seems things haven’t changed much. Despite all their talk about patriotism, conservatism, fiscal responsibility, saving babies, law and order and the rest, what they’re really all about is controlling the economy for their own gain.
It’s astonishing that after the Great Depression and other Republican-provided financial collapses that any middle-class citizens still listen to them. Whenever they are given the opportunity. they legislate kleptocracy.
And now there’s a good chance that the middle class is going to be paying more for less environmental protections, less access to federal lands, less honesty and transparency, less leadership in the world and less everything else that was good about our country.
