Gun-free schools law removes their autonomy

I am a retired Clovis educator, and I totally disagree with Gov. Jerry Brown’s decision to ban teachers with carry permits plus proper training to carry at school to protect their students.

Along with that, Brown is taking away the autonomy from the school districts to make their own decisions about how to protect their students. Really?

I applaud Kingsburg and the other district for their forward thinking about protecting their students. I am deeply saddened by this decision that all schools will now be gun-free zones.

With that said, the Bible instructs us to pray for our leaders regardless of how you may feel about them. My prayers will continue for our governor and our other leaders. I’ll be praying for a wall of safety to be placed around all schools in California, students, educators, my friends who are educators, staff, and my grandchildren, who are in public schools.

Jim Feramisco, Clovis
