What an affront to our Central Valley’s diverse community that convicted criminal and former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio is the best person the Fresno County Republican Party could think of to honor at its upcoming Second Amendment fundraiser.

Arpaio is nationally known to have been convicted for refusing to obey a federal court order to stop illegally racially profiling Latinos during patrols. Republican spokesperson Fred Vanderhoof’s recent claim to the contrary, Arpaio was not operating within the law.

Every candidate and elected official who attends this event is making a clear statement that he or she supports Arpaio’s mistreatment of people of color. None of them should ever be elected to public office again. Period!
