Fresno Unified should protect minority students
Just because you have an "ian" at the end of your name, does not give you free license to accuse your detractors of acting like Ottomans without understanding the history behind that accusation.
In fact, Fresno Unified School District President Brooke Ashjian has it completely wrong. He is actually acting more like the Ottomans. He is part of a governing body that is supposed to act in the best interests of its students. LGBTQ children and their families are part of a minority within FUSD, as Armenians were minorities within the Ottoman empire.
Ottomans systematically killed Armenians partly because they were Christians and were viewed as a threat by the young Turk government.
He cannot dilute the history behind the genocide to defend his views against a minority he is supposed to protect as a member of the board, let alone its president.
