School board president needs sex education

I am appalled that Fresno Unified School District board president Brooke Ashjian would use his religion to gay bash vulnerable LGBTQ kids in the Fresno Unified School District.

The Jesus I know about eschewed destructive dogma to affirm and promote the dignity and worth of the most vulnerable among us. Further, wanting to withhold from our youth a comprehensive approach to avoiding teenage pregnancy is flouting research and best practices, which should be valued in any system charged with education.

I’m proud that my own religious faith, Unitarian Universalism, offers our children and youth comprehensive sexuality and relationship education in age-appropriate classes. They learn the facts and they learn about respect and responsibility.

Perhaps board president Ashjian should learn the same lessons if he wishes to serve the children and teenagers of Fresno more appropriately and effectively.

Rev. Tim Kutzmark, minister, Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno
