City Council should honor Edna Garabedian

The California Opera Association, under the tutelage of Edna Garabedian, has just concluded a two-week festival of opera events, concluding its 18th season providing opera to the Valley with the Gioachino Rossini opera, “Cinderella” at the Mercedes Edwards Theater in Clovis.

It still amazes me how few know of this offering after all these years. With only major donors such as Saint Agnes Medical Center, Bank of the West, Exxon Mobil Foundation, Bonner Foundation, Fresno Coin Gallery, EECU of Fresno, Carmen Eanni of Miles Sears and Eanni, local doctors, family members and other donors, this cultural offering survives. Plans are now under way for the 19th season.

Our Fresno City Council should recognize Ms. Garabedian for her continued dedication in providing such professionally done opera for our Valley.

Raymond F. Ensher, Fresno
