Ashjian sex ed comments ‘reprehensible, discriminatory’
I am writing to express my vehement outrage over the Fresno Unified School District Pesident Brooke Ashjian’s comments on LGBT sexual education.
I would like to make sure that Mr. Ashjian knows that religion has no place in public education, because not everyone is of the same religion and some are not of any religion. His comments were not only reprehensible, but discriminatory.
If we do not teach our children proper education on all spectra of sexual orientation, we fail them for the future and perpetuate a culture of ignorance and intolerance. Being lesbian, gay, transgender or bisexual is a way of life, and I am proud to be a part of such a community.
We are tolerant of others’ beliefs until they begin to infringe on our rights. LGBT youth deserve every right that any cisgender, heterosexual student receives – including the sexual education that will ultimately protect them in the future.
I am not only ashamed that this man is in this position, representing our district; but, I will passionately aim to make sure he does not remain in this position when he is up for re-election.
