High-speed rail would be costly for San Jose-Fresno commuters

Would San Jose commuters take high-speed rail to Fresno for plusher housing?

Stop pushing high-speed rail. It will not bring workers to Fresno for housing. The July 30 article in The Bee examines the question of whether workers will leave their $3,000-per-month San Jose apartments for cheaper Fresno housing.

The article suggests the rail fare from Fresno to San Jose would be around $63. Organizations pushing HSR don't mention the ticket fees are for one-way travel. A monthly round trip will be $2,520, and when you add the $2,100 estimated monthly mortgage payment on the $300,000 home, you get $4,620 per month.

Why move to 110-degree Fresno, when you can stay in San Jose and not suffer a two-hour daily train ride?
