Bredefeld and his ‘God and Guns’ agenda

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Fresno City Council Member Gary Bredefeld is more concerned with a “God and Guns” political agenda than addressing critical issues facing our city. His latest proposal is to allow any city employee who has a concealed weapons permit to carry a gun while on the job.

The requirement that the employee have a personal, million-dollar liability insurance policy would likely be insufficient to cover the attorney fees and damage liability the city would have to pay for any intentional or accidental workplace shooting.

Recently, two local law enforcement officials, who had undergone extensive training on the safe use of firearms, accidentally discharged their guns. One injured himself and the other shot and killed a fellow officer. Under the proposed ordinance, the issue is not whether, but only when this will happen with a city employee.

If the proposal is not withdrawn, I agree with Chief of Police Jerry Dyer that other members of the City Council must vote this measure down.
