Finally, GOP grows a spine to speak truth to Trump

The silence has been deafening. However, it seems Republicans have finally acquired some spine and found their voices. With a few notable exceptions, they have heretofore chosen to bask in the glory of controlling every branch of our government, while apparently paying no mind to the actions of their president.

They were not disturbed when he allowed Russians into the Oval Office and shared classified information with them. They were not bothered when he delivered an extremely inappropriate speech at the Boy Scouts’ Convention, prompting the leader of the Scouts to send a letter of apology to parents of children who attended.

Space does not allow a complete listing of his egregious actions. However, the issue that has finally brought Republicans to voice criticism is his undignified treatment of the attorney general, a former senator. They should not be surprised – his firing of Jim Comey was probably the most undignified, insensitive, crass action ever undertaken by a president.

Finally finding their voices is hardly indicative of “profiles in courage,” but rather as examples of self-serving individuals who choose to serve their party rather than their country. I am an independent voter who has voted Republican in the past – never again.
