No one knows what a ‘Democrat’ is today

Summer 2017 is here and we are fast approaching six months with Donald Trump as president. The Democrats in Congress have been doing a good job of serving as the check and balance they were designed to be. There is something oddly beautiful about watching Chuck Schumer artfully maneuver the Senate and expose Republican secrecy and hypocrisy, especially over the matter of health care.

However, despite low national approval ratings, Republicans are undefeated in House special elections this year. Granted, these are all red-leaning districts, as they are districts vacated by Trump administration officials, but it is still pretty disheartening to hear about all of these “moral victories” with nothing to show for it.

The problem is that no one knows what a Democrat is these days. Democrats need to tell working class people that they want affordable health care for everyone and an economy that works for everyone, that they stand with them, and they need to tell the working class before it is too late.
