Thanks to Sanger Amvets Post 98 for respect
I am of the traditional Choinumni Tribe in Sanger.
I would like to give a heart-filled thank you to Amvets Post 98 of Sanger. This group has showed honor and respect to our veterans and tribal members buried in our sacred burial grounds in Piedra. Amvets Post 98 has been doing this with our tribe for 22 years.
On May 28, they honored our “warriors” with their color guard and full veteran ceremony, as they have done for over two decades. This is what I know as the “warrior code,” as it was told to me by a tribal elder. The elder said “A warrior is a fighter, but is also a teacher, mentor, spiritual guide and will pitch in and help his community when asked.”
I know my family and tribal members have the same respect for this group and their families for what they do, for our community. We must not ever forget our warriors past and present on Memorial Day weekend because, whether they are active or not, they continue to serve all of us. Thank you, Amvets Post 98.
