American Health Care Act is ruse to give tax breaks to rich

On May 22, The Fresno Bee published a commentary by Congressman David Valadao (CA-21), entitled “Why I Voted for the American Health Care Act.” Among his many assertions, Valadao stated that his “yes” vote for Trumpcare “ensures all have access to health care by modernizing and strengthening Medicaid for those in need.”

In stark contrast to Rep. Valadao’s Pollyanna-ish musings, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office recently projected that 23 million Americans will have lost their current health insurance by 2026. This loss is due primarily to Trumpcare’s $834 billion reduction in “outlays for Medicaid.”

Rep. Valadao must believe that The Bee’s readers (his constituents) are extremely gullible to suggest, as he has, that the loss of health care coverage by 23 million Americans and a reduction of $832 billion in support of Medicaid constitute a “modernizing and strengthening” of Medicaid.

It seems to me that he needs to be honest in his reasoning for his “yes” vote. This is nothing more than a bill to give a huge tax break to citizens making over $250,000 per year.
