Brandau’s sermonette slaps voters in the face

In the May 11 council meeting, Steve Brandau had just heard 90 minutes of public commentary, in which person after person declared that the “In God We Trust” motion was divisive, offensive and shoving religion down our throats. So, he thought it would be a great idea to conclude with a sermonette, complete with scriptural quotes.

Preaching from the position of an elected representative is always inappropriate, but in this context, it is doubly so. What a slap in the face to non-Christian believers and the non-believers in the audience.

Apparently Brandau forgot that the official party line was, “This isn’t religious in nature (wink, wink).” The message is clear, Brandau and Garry Bredefeld represent only the “people who matter,” and they get to decide who matters. Apparently, in their religious zeal, they’ve not noticed that they should be ashamed.
