Put ‘Actions Speak Louder Than Words’ on council chambers
A motion to post “In God We Trust” on the wall of the Fresno City Council chamber is a pious and hypocritical idea and a waste of valuable time. Our city council should focus its energy on making meaningful decisions that pertain to our city’s business.
Parroting these words and posting them on the wall doesn’t magically erase or change all of the bad decisions that council members are making on behalf of the indigent, homeless and frequently ignored sections of Fresno.
Who are we kidding? History has shown that our city council trusts developers and big business. “Actions Speak Louder than Words” would be a more accurate phrase to post on the wall. An individual’s ideology or beliefs shouldn’t be advertised on any government wall. Not everyone buys into the concept of God. This is a personal matter. The walls should be neutral, just like the color of the paint on the walls.
Just because a national campaign was started in 1995 to promote this idea, it doesn’t mean that we should follow this trend. We can think for ourselves. We don’t need this phrase constantly hammered at us. Our city council members should stop discussing this proposal and move on to the business that matters, rather than promoting their personal agenda.
