The time is now to save Mother Earth
Science matters because the physical laws of the universe apply to us all whether we believe in them or not. A science and technology based civilization has brought great benefits, including modern transportation, resource extraction for raw materials and energy, miracles of medicine, instant global communication, genetic engineering and advances in understanding the human psyche.
Science is needed to develop solutions to resource depletion, environmental degradation, global warming, infectious pandemics and extreme psychological stresses of modern life. The current American political situation is plagued by willful ignorance and apathy towards these rapidly worsening problems. The inability to respond to what is actually happening will have irreversible harmful effects upon the earth and its people.
A small number of wealthy and powerful people are removing environmental protections in the pursuit of profit. The 99.99 percent of us have the power to say no to this.
On April 22, Earth Day and Science Day, speak out, march and make a positive change for the sake of our children and grandchildren. The time for concerted action is now before it is too late.
