Campaign finance reform can save our republic
America has declined on the United Nations’ happiness scale. Absence of government corruption is one requirement cited as essential to well-being. No wonder we are deficient in this category.
Our republic is a de facto plutocracy commandeered by those who promote their self-serving interests, oblivious to the societal carnage left behind.
Unless campaign finance reform is initiated, a glut of groups posing as “nonprofits” will continue to surreptitiously influence elections, politicians and policies that erode and destroy democracy.
This usurpation can only be countered by refusal to align with forces of injustice, inequality and, most of all, “greed.”
