A fifth-grader’s view of overprotective parents
One thing I have noticed is that some parents and adults are too overprotective of children.
This has been going on for a long time, and it is mostly caused by adults seeing something on the news, usually with children or teens, that is horrific or worrisome. They infer that this can happen to their children or any young person they are close to.
They then try to do their very best and go over the top to protect children. This normally is not bad, but it can sometimes go over the limit.
Once, at a birthday dinner, a woman cut my meat for me, saying I was too young to do it on my own. This happened even though I was properly taught how to use a knife.
It is best way to not overprotect your children from the outside world, but to prepare them for it. Let them do certain things, and remember that we will all get cuts and bruises. This will teach them how to deal with problems and move on.
