Wrong-way Marshall is GOP role model

In 1964, Jim Marshall of the Minnesota Vikings famously ran to the wrong end zone in a game against the 49ers. You’d think that no one would want to emulate such a snafu, and yet, in recent weeks, leading Republicans have shown themselves quite willing to make Mr. Marshall their role model.

In the wake of the Flint water catastrophe and the growing threat of climate change, Donald Trump has asked that the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget be slashed $2 billion. Despite the dubious success of school-voucher programs in states like Wisconsin and Michigan, Betsy DeVos is eager to install such programs nationwide.

.

The list goes on: the proposed budget would kill the Department of Education’s Striving Readers program and do away with a program to help low income families pay their energy bills. For some reason, Republicans seem eager to run in the wrong direction these days. You have to wonder what sort of a game they’re really playing.
