Bee’s health-care editorial hits the mark
In response to “GOP must come up with a real health-care plan” (March 15): Kudos to The Bee editorial board. The editorial persuasively summarizes by title and detail how, as a practicing physician and neurologist, I feel about the current ACA-to-AHCA turmoil.
During the fall campaign, candidate Donald Trump promised to replace Affordable Care Act with “something great,” which the American Health Care Act clearly is not. It violates several of the nine principles for health-care access now advocated by my national organization, the American Academy of Neurology.
I hope that Valley Reps. Nunes and Valadao, along with other Republican legislators, read and consider points made by the editorial board before Congress guts access to health care next year for 14 million to eventually 24 million Americans.
Frankly, if the GOP had during the recent election provided the current level of detail about the AHCA “replace” to come after “repeal,” surely many Americans would have reconsidered their votes.
