‘Ottoman Lieutenant’ downplays Armenian genocide
If the purpose of going to the movies is to escape reality, delve into fantasy and fiction, then “The Ottoman Lieutenant” is for you.
The movie’s premise is love in the time of war. But this mindless Hollywood escapism is courtesy of everybody’s favorite NATO ally and inventor of genocide, Turkey. And the purpose of the movie is not to entertain, but to mislead, which is the underlying premise of Turkey’s foreign policy and lobbying efforts worldwide.
The movie attempts to portray the Ottoman army as righteous, which we all know it is not, and it attempts to convey the message that whatever happened to the Armenians during World War I was simply a sad and unfortunate byproduct of war.
Of course, we all know that what happened to the Armenians was a genocide; and we also know that it was not a byproduct of war, but a deliberate and premeditated attempt to exterminate the Christian Armenians from their ancestral homeland. There are certain facts that none of us can escape from, including and especially the Armenian Genocide.
So enjoy the show, but please remember to silence your phone and your conscience.
