Trump should stop lying or resign

Are we living in the age of the “post-truth presidency?” Have we just come to expect untruth from President Trump?

I have to admit, some of his lies are mildly amusing. He claimed to draw the largest crowds ever to his inauguration. He claimed to have received the highest number of Electoral College votes since Ronald Reagan. He claimed that people were lined up for six blocks to see him at CPAC. All of these statements are untrue, if relatively harmless. They all seem to be examples of President Trump stroking his ego.

However, he has also lied in more serious and harmful ways. He sought to undermine the Obama presidency by pushing birtherism for years. He claimed that millions of illegal votes were cast in the election, questioning the integrity of the election. He pushed the idea that Ted Cruz’s father was involved with Lee Harvey Oswald.

Now we have seen him claim that President Obama ordered wiretaps on his, and other phones, in Trump Tower. Both former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and FBI Director James Comey have denied the existence of these wiretaps.

If this president can’t clean up his act, he should resign.
