‘An unjust law is no law at all’

Thank you for your Feb. 26 editorial “Trump building blueprint for mass deportation?” I was among the 500-plus people who marched Feb. 18 against the notched-up deportations of undocumented people. I posted pics of the march on Facebook along with what the march was about and why I was involved.

That posting started a firestorm of ignorant hate-filled responses that attacked my Christian faith and accused me of rebellion for being involved. My message was that the immigration system needs serious reform. Fixing it must be a priority.

The editorial was right when it stated that what is considered a “crime” must be defined. I know personally that ICE agents are stopping people on the streets, checking to see if they are in the system, and if not, they are being deported. The “crime” is that they are here illegally and have jobs.

So, once here illegally, there is no pathway to citizenship. The current law is unjust. As Saint Augustine said, “An unjust law is no law at all.”
